The free to join Dundee ECO Stars scheme aims to provide advice and guidance on how to improve fuel efficiency and reduce operating costs for fleet operators. It also aims to raise awareness among operators of commercial vehicles of the important role they can play in helping to improve local air quality (particularly due to the whole of Dundee City Council being declared an Air Quality Management Area) and other environmental issues by enhancing their fleet performance.
ECO Stars was originally created in South Yorkshire and has since been adopted by other areas in the UK including Nottingham, Falkirk, Mid Devon, City of York, and Edinburgh as well as several cities across Europe. In total, the schemes have more than 150 members with 14,000+ vehicles registered. The Dundee ECO Stars scheme is managed in Dundee by Transport & Travel Research Ltd on behalf of Dundee City Council. Funding for the Dundee ECO Stars scheme has been obtained via the Scottish Government's Air Quality Action Plan Grant Scheme and is also being supported by the Tayside and Central Scotland Transport Partnership (TACTRAN).
The free scheme has been set up to help fleet operators improve efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and reduce emissions – all helping to improve local air quality and at the same time, make cost savings.
The scheme is voluntary and free to join and open to operators of buses, coaches, vans and trucks.
