Multi Storey Caretaking Service

All multi storey blocks in Dundee have CCTV cameras both inside and outside the block. It is monitored 24 hours a day and will be supported by regular patrols especially during the late evening to ensure the security of more vulnerable areas, such as car parks and entrances in some areas.

The multi storey blocks have a controlled entry system and you will be given up to 3 key fobs depending on the size of your household that will allow you to gain entry into the block. These key fobs are for the use of residents only and any visitors must enter the block by using the tenant call system, located at each entry point to the multi storey. When the visitor enters the flat number, the system will contact the tenant through an intercom to find out if they wish to allow access into the block.

The caretakers office is a reception for you to report any repairs or leave messages for your Tenancy Officer. They allow access if keys are left for workers to repair your home.

Complaints about noisy neighbours or other antisocial behaviour should also be reported to the caretaker, who would then be able to support your complaint when the area office investigates

The cleaning of most multi storey landings is carried out by Tayside Contracts cleaners. The weekly clean includes a sweep/wash of landings, chute rooms and backstairs,damp wipe of all edges and ledges. All walls are damp wiped to reach level every two months and all windows are cleaned every quarter.

Caretakers are there to ensure that the entrance to the block is clean and welcoming and secure at night. They also keep the lifts, launderette and bin room clean.

Caretakers are also responsible for managing the launderettes, reporting any repairs to communal areas that are required and reporting incidents requiring attention to the emergency services or housing department.

In each block the caretakers have an office/storeroom where they take their breaks and night caretakers have a front office where they can be contacted. Most of the time caretakers are working in the blocks so it may be difficult for tenants to know exactly where they will be at any given time. However if you cannot find the caretaker, you can contact the district office, which will pass on a message.

Monday to Thursday, 8 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4.30 pm
Friday, 8 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4 pm
Saturday, 8 am to 11.30 am

Night caretakers (not available at Dudhope)
Monday to Thursday, 5.30 pm to 2 am
Friday, 5.30 pm to 3 am
Saturday, 6 pm to 3 am
Sunday, 6 pm to 1.30 am

Launderettes are an important part of multi storey living and provide a valuable service to residents. Day caretakers are responsible for managing the launderette service in the multi storey blocks. If the machines in the launderettes are in high demand you should book a time to use the launderette. The day caretakers and concierge keep a record of when the machines are in use and they can book a time for you.

When you make an appointment to use the launderette the caretaker will sell you a token to use in the machine.

If you are a sheltered tenant the laundry facility is free for you up to a maximum 2 washes and 2 drying tokens a week. Further tokens may be purchased on request at the standard charge.

If there is a fault with any of the machines in the launderette, report it to the caretaker, who will investigate the problem and arrange for the machine to be repaired as soon as possible.

Tenants can help the caretakers in their jobs in a number of ways by:

• reporting any acts of vandalism
• bringing to their attention any potential problems inside or outside the block
• making suggestions on how the conditions in the block could be improved
