The Scottish Government introduced a new mandatory licensing scheme for Short-term Lets (STL) in Scotland. This includes holiday cottages, B&B’s, guest houses, rooms within a home and unconventional accommodation such as cabins, pods and yurts. This scheme became fully implemented from 1 October 2023 therefore anyone wishing to operate an STL, who hasn’t already submitted an application, cannot accept any guests or bookings until they have been granted a licence to do so.
As part of the licensing scheme, the council must publish a licensing policy (Dundee City Council – Short-term Lets Licensing Policy Statement; Guidance Notes and Standards for Accommodation) and this can be accessed below.
The Guidance Notes and Standards include mandatory safety requirements, which will cover every type of short term let and a range of additional conditions relevant to short term let property in Dundee.
