The increase in unemployment for young people runs counter to the general trend of decreasing levels of unemployment. Whilst to some extent this may reflect sampling variability in the underlying data source, nevertheless it is recognised that participation levels for young people in the city need to improve. As such, significant investment is being made through the employability pathway in provision that is dedicated to supporting young people into work.
The source for this indicator is National Statistics Annual Population Survey. The small sample size at local authority level means that large swings can be partially attributed to sampling variability and therefore large year on year changes should be interpreted with caution.
