I DECLARATION OF INTEREST

 

There were no declarations of interest.

 

II PROVISION OF FREE SANITARY PRODUCTS IN SCHOOLS

 

There was submitted Report No 154-2018 by the Executive Director of Children and Families Services informing the Committee that the Scottish Government had committed to providing access to free sanitary products to pupils in schools to support equality, dignity and rights for those who menstruate.

 

The Committee:-

 

(i) noted and approved the contents of the report; and

 

(ii) instructed the Executive Director of Children and Families Services to implement the proposals and report back on progress in 12 months' time.

 

III HUNTER FOUNDATION AND BBC CHILDREN IN NEED

 

There was submitted Report No 156-2018 by the Executive Director of Children and Families Services outlining proposed developments relating to the targeted use of additional funding from the Hunter Foundation and BBC Children in Need to further improve and extend approaches towards Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC).

 

The Committee:-

 

(i) approved proposals to use additional funding from the Hunter Foundation and BBC Children in Need to improve partnership approaches towards GIRFEC; and

 

(ii) instructed the Executive Director of Children and Families Services to provide an update report in 6 months' time.

 

IV EXPANSION OF EARLY LEARNING AND CHILDCARE ENTITLEMENT TO 1140 HOURS

 

Reference was made to Article II of the minute of meeting of this Committee of 25th September, 2017.

 

There was submitted Report No 157-2018 by the Executive Director of Children and Families Services updating the Committee regarding the planned expansion of Early Learning and Childcare from 600 hours to 1400 hours by 2020.

 

The Committee:-

 

(i) noted the content of the report;

 

(ii) approved the model to deliver 1140 hours;

 

(iii) supported the trials as outlined in the report; and

 

(iv) requested the Executive Director of Children and Families Services to bring a further report on the progress of the implementation in 12 months' time.

 

V SCOTTISH ATTAINMENT CHALLENGE - PROGRESS REPORT

 

There was submitted Report No 158-2018 by the Executive Director of Children and Families Services providing an update of the Scottish Attainment Challenge in Dundee.

 

The Committee:-

 

(i) noted the progress, success and impact to date, and

 

(ii) instructed the Executive Director of Children and Families Services to continue to provide regular updates with regard to the funding allocation and the implementation of the Scottish Attainment Challenge in Dundee.

 

VI SENIOR PHASE ATTAINMENT - LEAVERS DATA

 

There was submitted Report No 155-2018 by the Executive Director of Children and Families Services informing the Committee of the attainment by senior school leavers in academic session 2016-2017.

 

The Committee noted the contents of the report.

 

VII VALEDICTORY - GORDON WINTON

 

The Convener, on behalf of the Council, indicated that Gordon Winton, Committee Services Officer, would be retiring at the end of May after forty three years service and thanked him for services rendered by him.
