The minute of meeting of this Committee of 27th February, 2017 was held as read.
Unless marked thus * all items stand delegated.
Prior to the commencement of business, there was a minutes silence in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the recent terrorist attacks in London.
I DECLARATION OF INTEREST
There were no declarations of interest.
II RESPONDING TO YOUNG PEOPLE DISCOVERED TO BE IN POSSESSION OF A KNIFE IN SCHOOL
There was submitted Report No 110-2017 by the Executive Director of Children and Families Service outlining any implications for Dundee City Council based on the findings of the recent enquiry carried out by Aberdeen City Council on the tragic death of school pupil, Bailey Gwynne.
The Committee noted the contents of the report and further agreed:-
(i) the Executive Director to report back to the Children and Families Services Committee on the impact of the new Knife Possession Guidelines early in 2018;
(ii) a leaflet should be produced that sets out the Councils policy on young people discovered to be in possession of a knife in school. This should be distributed at S1 induction events and other events during the secondary education of a pupil; and
(iii) the target date for reporting back to the Committee regarding bullying to be advised.
III SENIOR PHASE ATTAINMENT - LEAVERS DATA
There was submitted Report No 111-2017 by the Executive Director of Children and Families Service informing the Committee of the attainment by senior school leavers in academic session 2015/2016.
The Committee noted the contents of the report.
At this juncture external members of the Committee departed.
IV FOSTERING ALLOWANCES 2017/2018
There was submitted Report No 112-2017 by the Executive Director of Children and Families Service informing the Committee of increases in Fostering, Kinship and Residential Allowances.
The Committee agreed to the increased rates as per Appendix 1 of the report noted below:-
