At a MEETING of the EDUCATION COMMITTEE held at Dundee on 25th August, 2008.

The minute of meeting of this Committee of 23rd June, 2008 was held as read.

Unless marked thus * all items stand delegated.

Prior to the commencement of business the Committee congratulated Mr Jim Collins, Head of Secondary Education with the City Council on his recent appointment as Director of Education for Dundee City Council and Dundee Schools Music Theatre on their highly acclaimed performance of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Reference was also made to the new schools built as part of the Council's PPP Scheme which had opened at the start of term and how impressive the new facilities were.

I TENDERS RECEIVED

(a) CITY ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES OFFICER

There was submitted Report No 404-2008 by the City Architectural Services Officer listing tenders received and requesting a decision thereon:-

(i) St Ninian's R C Primary School - Air Handling Units

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated contract with G K Scotia, Glenrothes for 29,263, together with allowances of 1,000 for contingencies, 3,000 for electrical supply and 4,627 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 37,890.

(b) CITY ENGINEER

There was submitted Report No 423-2008 by the City Engineer detailing tenders received and requesting a decision thereon:-

(i) Bellfield Nursery School - Demolition

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Dundee Plant Company Ltd for 18,495, together with the following allowances:-

making a total expenditure of 28,795.

II EDUCATION DEPARTMENT SERVICE PLAN 2008/2011

There was submitted Report No 420-2008 by the Director of Education relative to the above.

The Committee agreed to:-

(i) note the contents of the report;

(ii) approve the Service Plan, 2008/2011; and

(iii) instruct the Director of Education to monitor progress and impact of the plan.

III CHURCH OF SCOTLAND CHURCH AND SOCIETY COUNCIL: RESIDENTIAL CONFERENCE

There was submitted Agenda Note AN157-2008 informing the Committee that the above Conference organised by the Church of Scotland for all Church/Religious Representatives on the Education Committee would take place in Dundee on 11th/12th September, 2008 at a cost of 200 per delegate, excluding travel and subsistence.

The Committee authorised the attendance of Church/Religious Representatives at the above Conference.
