III TENDERS RECEIVED

The City Architectural Services Officer submitted Report No 506-2005 giving details of offers received for the undernoted contracts:-

(a) LYNCH SPORTS CENTRE - LIGHTING PROPOSALS

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by McGill Electrical Limited amounting to 38,934.15 together with an allowance of 6,564 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 45,498.15.

IV BALGARTHNO STONE CIRCLE

There was submitted Agenda Note AN421-2005 advising that following consultation with Historic Scotland it was proposed that the environment in and around the Gourdie Balgarthno Stone Circle be improved. This would include the erection of appropriate fencing together with interpretation boards and an archaeologist being present when any excavation works were undertaken.

The Committee accepted the offer from Dundee Contract Services to erect the fence at a cost of 4,388, approved the engagement of an archaeologist to oversee the work at a cost of 570 and authorised expenditure of 500 for interpretational signage.

V CURLING DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

The Convener, Lord Provost Letford, Bailie Mackie and Councillor FitzPatrick declared a non-financial interest by virtue of their appointment as Directors of Dundee Ice Arena.

There was submitted Agenda Note AN423-2005 advising that the Council had been invited to participate in a partnership with the royal Caledonian Curling Club in promoting and developing curling. The partnership would also include Perth and Kinross as well as other Councils and was designed to lead to increased participation and interest in curling for all levels, particularly children, and to generally increase awareness of both the sport and curling in the context with the Dundee area and Dundee Ice Arena as a focus.

This would involve a full-time Curling Development Officer actively promoting the sport with the key groups as well as club and coach development with the work being focused on the Dundee Ice Arena.

The Committee approved the Council working within the partnership and the contributions of 2,370 in 2005/06, 2,500 in 2006/07 and 2,750 in 2007/08.
