II GILBURN ROAD - MAINTENANCE OF OPEN SPACES
There was submitted Agenda Note AN411-2003 informing the Committee about an area of derelict land along the south side of Gilburn Road which backs onto houses at the rear of Sherbrook Crescent which had recently been landscaped under a Better Neighbourhood Services Fund project.
The culverted Gelly Burn is the boundary line of the ownership between the Council and each individual adjoining property on Sherbrook Crescent that backs on to the ground. Therefore, approximately 50% of the ground is owned by the Council and the remaining 50% by the various owners in Sherbrook Crescent.
Dundee Contract Services will maintain the site under the Open Spaces Budget at an estimate of 800 per annum, for which provision will be made when the Revenues Estimates are reviewed for 2004/2005.
In order to assist in the maintenance of the ground the Committee agreed that a request would be made to each of the 10 affected house owners in Sherbrook Crescent to make a one-off contribution of 75.00 each to share the cost of landscape maintenance in the first five years. Thereafter, the Council will fully maintain the site.
III COX'S STACK OPEN SPACE - PEDESTRIAN ACCESS
There was submitted Agenda Note AN412-2003 informing the Committee that the public open space around Cox's Stack is owned by Dundee City Council (excluding the chimney stack). The adjacent factor of the High Mill flats in the former Camperdown Works due to trespass problems had closed off the former pedestrian access from the south of the site.
The Committee agreed to approve the construction of a new pedestrian access to the open space from Eastwell Road at an estimated cost of 9,000 subject to landowner's consent and that the work be carried out by Dundee Contract Services and met from the provision of 50,000 in Dundee Contract Services' 2003/04 Capital Budget for Public Open Space Improvements.
Lord Provost JOHN R LETFORD, Convener.
