The minute of meeting of this Committee of 20th January, 2003 was held as read.

I UPGRADE OF FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

 

There was submitted Report No 160-2003 by the Acting Director of Environmental and Consumer Protection seeking authority to upgrade the existing fleet fuel management system. The upgrade would consist of the dispensing and recording system at Marchbanks Depot and the extension of the system to incorporate a fuelling sub-depot at Baldovie within the Environmental and Consumer Protection Department.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the offer by JMW Limited amounting to 12,136.70.

 

II PURCHASE OF CIVIC AMENITY SITE CONTAINERS

 

There was submitted Report No 161-2003 by the Acting Director of Environmental and Consumer Protection seeking authority to purchase ten 40 cubic yard containers. The containers would be used by the Environmental and Consumer Protection Department for the public deposit of bulky waste on the newly developed civic amenity site at Fairfield Road.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Thomson Engineering amounting to 21,000.

 

III PURCHASE OF REFUSE CONTAINERS

 

There was submitted Report No 162-2003 by the Acting Director of Environmental and Consumer Protection seeking authority to purchase refuse containers for the new civic amenity site at Marchbanks and educational establishments throughout the city.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the negotiated offer by Egbert Taylor & Co Limited, who were the only supplier in the United Kingdom of 1280 litre bins, amounting to 19,300.

 

IV PEOPLE AND PLACES PROGRAMME - MEMBERSHIP

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN115-2003 seeking approval for Dundee City Council to become a member of the People and Places Programme administered by Keep Scotland Beautiful.

 

The Committee agreed that the Council take up membership of the programme at a cost of 3,060 per annum.

V ASSOCIATION OF PUBLIC ANALYSTS

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN116-2003 advising that the Association of Public Analysts which represents all public analysts in the United Kingdom, had nominated the Principal Scientific Services Officer/Public Analyst to serve as a member of their Council from 2003 to 2006.

 

The Committee noted the nomination of the Principal Scientific Services Officer/Public Analyst to serve as a member of their Council.

 

VI CONSTRUCTION OF SECURE STORAGE COMPOUND, MARCHBANKS DEPOT

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN117-2003 advising of offers which had been received for the construction of a compound at Marchbanks Depot for the secure storage of wheeled bins and other equipment.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Darfen Durafencing Limited amounting to 2,315.28.

 

The Committee resolved under Section 50 (A)(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 that the public be excluded from the meeting for the undernoted item of business on the grounds that this would involve the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraph 3 of Part 1 of Schedule 7A to the above Act.

 

VII CIVIC GOVERNMENT (SCOTLAND) ACT, 1982 - SECTION 87(1) BUILDINGS IN NEED OF REPAIR

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN118-2003 reporting that notices had been served on owners of various properties requiring works to be carried out.

 

The Committee agreed that the Acting Director of Environmental and Consumer Protection be authorised to carry out the works should the owners not comply within the time allowed in the notices.
