The minute of meeting of this Committee of 16th October, 2000 was held as read.

I OLYMPIA

 

(a) ANNUAL MAINTENANCE CLOSURE - MONDAY, 4TH DECEMBER, 2000 TO SUNDAY, 17TH DECEMBER, 2000

 

The Committee agreed that Olympia be closed between the above dates to enable the annual equipment survey and essential maintenance programme to be carried out. The Committee also noted that alternative facilities would be available at Lochee Swimming and Leisure Centre during the closure period.

 

(b) WATERSLIDE SAFETY

 

The Director of Leisure and Parks reported that offers had been received from specialist suppliers, Pool Cover Systems UK, Northumberland for the replacement of sealant to flume internal joints at a sum of 6,890, to which required to be added a contingency of 1,000 making a total cost 7,890. He also reported that a quotation of 3,800 had been received from specialist suppliers B.R.E. for urgent replacement of the compressor required to ensure the correct functions of the wave pool.

 

The Committee agreed to accept both the above tenders.

 

(c) TENDERS RECEIVED

 

The City Architectural Services Officer submitted Report No. 717-2000 giving details of the offers received for the undernoted contracts:-

 

(i) Olympia Leisure Centre - Health Suite - Distribution Board Upgrading

 

The Committee agreed to accept the second lowest offer by Dundee Contract Services amounting to 6,330.69, to which required to be added allowances of 300 for contingencies and 1,000 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 7,630.69.

 

(ii) Olympia Leisure Centre - Toddlers Pool Alterations

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Taylor Mechanical Services Ltd amounting to 23,962.48, to which required to be added an allowance of 4,300 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 28,262.48.

 

The Committee also noted that Taylor Mechanical Services Ltd had listed Honeywell Control Systems Ltd as the Sub-Contractor for electrical work.

 

(iii) Olympia Leisure Centre - Removal of Banana Splits Slide

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by WH Brown Construction (Dundee) Ltd amounting to 9,241.59, to which required to be added an allowance of 2,025 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 11,266.59.

 

The Committee also noted that WH Brown Construction (Dundee) Ltd had listed the undernoted Sub-Contractors:-

GS Whyte, Monifieth - Plumber

 

II CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR HOLIDAY CLOSURES

 

The Committee approved Report No 795-2000 detailing a Schedule of Closure for Christmas and New Year Holidays 2000/2001 for various leisure facilities within the Council.

 

III BAXTER PARK - PROFESSIONAL FEES

 

The Committee noted that the Stage II Heritage Lottery Submission for Baxter Park Restoration Plan had been submitted and a response was expected within four months.

 

The Committee also approved the expenditure of 3,600 for professional services to design and cost the proposed new Park Centre building in Baxter Park.

 

IV DUNDEE PLAY AREA REPORT - PROPOSALS FOR PHASE II OF THE PROGRAMME

 

On a reference to Article V of the minute of meeting of this Committee of 18th September, 2000, the Director of Leisure and Parks submitted Report No.695-2000 requesting approval for Phase II of the above Play Area Programme.

 

The Committee approved in principle Phase II of the Play Area Report for implementation in 2001/2002 and further recommended that the Director of Leisure and Parks be given the remit to complete detailed designs and costings for Phase II and report back to a subsequent Committee for approval. It was also agreed that continuing consultation with local members would take place and appropriate updates be made available during the progress of the Programme.
