The minute of meeting of this Committee of 18th February, 2002 was held as read.

I CAIRD HALL DEVELOPMENT

 

The Director of Arts and Heritage submitted Report No 194-2002 reporting on the success of the Scottish Arts Council lottery bid and requesting Committee approval for capital expenditure.

 

The Committee agreed that:-

 

(a)the Director of Arts and Heritage be authorised to accept the offer of grant up to a maximum of 752,000 for the project from the Scottish Arts Council on the conditions and undertakings specified therein;

 

(b)it be remitted to the Director of Arts and Heritage to re-negotiate the terms of the grant to exclude the requirement for a Standard Security over the Caird Hall;

 

(c)the Project Team consisting of officers from Leisure and Arts, Architectural Services and Finance proceed with the project within the proposed budget and timescale;

 

(d)the project proceed on the basis of procurement of specialist sub-consultants, contractors and suppliers in line with Best Value and as agreed with SAC Lottery Fund; and

 

(f)the City Architectural Services Officer be authorised to obtain quotations for seating at the earliest possible date and to enter into a partnering arrangement with an appropriate contractor to carry out all other work associated with the refurbishment project with the combined total of the seating and partnering contract not exceeding 1,024,000; the Director of Support Services in conjunction with the Director of Leisure and Arts being authorised to accept the tenders for seating and partnering contracts as recommended by the City Architectural Services Officer.

 

II TENDERS RECEIVED

 

The City Architectural Services Officer submitted Report No 209-2002 giving details of an offer negotiated with Dundee Contract Services to carry out alterations at Broughty Castle Museum for the sum of 8,400 to which required to be added allowances of 200 for building warrant and 1,400 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 1,600.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the offer.

III BROUGHTY CASTLE MUSEUM - TEMPORARY CLOSURE

 

The Committee noted that Broughty Castle Museum would be closed in the interests of public safety during the redevelopment of two galleries and visitor and community facilities from Tuesday, 2nd April to Saturday, 29th June, 2002.

 

IV BURGH HALLS, BROUGHTY FERRY - BOILER REPLACEMENT

 

It was reported for the information of the Committee that the Director of Arts and Heritage, after consultation with the Convener and Spokespersons of the Opposition Groups, had agreed to accept the lower offer by Taylor Mechanical Services Limited to carry out the above boiler replacement for the sum of 3,756.90.
