The Lord Provost agreed that the undernoted items be considered as a matter of urgency in terms of Standing Order No. 17(b) in view of the timescales involved.

 

II PUBLIC HOLIDAYS 2002

The undernoted dates were fixed.

In addition it was noted that the Privy Council Office had proposed an additional one-off holiday on 3rd June, 2002 to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee and that the public holiday scheduled for 27th May 2002 (Victoria Day) be moved to Tuesday, 4th June, 2002.

The Council approved the proposal subject to the relevant National Negotiating Bodies agreeing to the additional day and the relevant Trade Unions agreeing locally to the transfer of Victoria Day in 2002 only.

It was further agreed that Dundee and Tayside Chamber of Commerce be advised accordingly.

III TAYSIDE FIRE BOARD APPOINTMENTS SUB-COMMITTEE

It was reported that at the meeting of Tayside Fire Board on 25th June 2001 it was agreed to establish an Appointments Sub-Committee to select and appoint the Firemaster's successor.

The Sub-Committee would comprise the Convener, two Vice-Conveners and four other members, being two from Dundee City Council, one from Perth and Kinross Council and one from Angus Council.

Councillor Grant seconded by Councillor Shimi moved that Councillors Regan and Mackie be appointed to serve on the Appointments Sub-Committee.

As an amendment Councillor Corrigan seconded by Councillor Sawers moved that Councillors Regan and Barrie be appointed to serve on the Appointments Sub-Committee.

On a division, there voted for the motion - Lord Provost Letford, Councillors de Gernier, Wright, Ward, Shimi, Presswood, Regan, Farquhar, Sturrock, Glen, Grant, Rolfe, Powrie, Mackie, Wallace and Scott (16); and for the amendment - Councillors Richard Beattie, Dawson, Sawers, Fitzpatrick, Guild, Corrigan, Dave Beattie, Barrie, Fordyce, Bowes and Borthwick (11) - whereupon the motion was declared carried.
