I APPOINTMENT OF LORD PROVOST (CONVENER OF THE COUNCIL)
On a reference to the minute of meeting of the Council of 18th June 2001 the Council was asked to fill this vacancy in terms of Section 4(6) of the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994.
Councillor Shimi, seconded by Councillor Sturrock, moved that Councillor Letford be appointed.
Councillor Sawers, seconded by Councillor Petrie, moved that Councillor Bowes be appointed.
On a division, there voted for Councillor Letford - Councillors de Gernier, Letford, Wright, Ward, Shimi, Presswood, Regan, Farquhar, Luke, Sturrock, Glen, Rolfe, Powrie, Mackie and Wallace (15); and for Councillor Bowes - Councillors, Barrie, Richard Beattie, Dawson, Sawers, FitzPatrick, Petrie, Guild, Corrigan, Dave Beattie, Fordyce and Bowes (11); - Councillors Scott and Borthwick declining to vote - whereupon Councillor Letford was appointed and he subscribed the Declaration de fideli; administratione officii prior to taking the chair.
II APPOINTMENT OF CONVENER OF HOUSING
It was reported that Councillor Luke had resigned from the above post.
Councillor Sturrock, seconded by Councillor Luke moved that Councillor Shimi be appointed.
Councillor Dawson, seconded by Councillor Petrie moved that Councillor Sawers be appointed.
On a division, there voted for Councillor Shimi - Lord Provost Letford, Councillors de Gernier, Wright, Ward, Shimi, Presswood, Regan, Farquhar, Luke, Sturrock, Glen, Rolfe, Powrie, Mackie, Wallace and Borthwick (16); and for Councillor Sawers - Councillors Barrie, Richard Beattie, Dawson, Sawers, FitzPatrick, Petrie, Guild, Corrigan, Dave Beattie, Fordyce and Bowes (11); - Councillor Scott declining to vote - whereupon Councillor Shimi was duly appointed.
The Lord Provost agreed that the undernoted item be considered as a matter of urgency in terms of Standing Order No. 17(b) in view of the timescales involved.
III APPOINTMENT OF DEPUTE LORD PROVOST (DEPUTE CONVENER OF THE COUNCIL)
Reference was made to Article I above wherein the Depute Lord Provost was appointed Lord Provost.
Councillor Shimi, seconded by Councillor Sturrock moved that Councillor Farquhar be appointed.
Councillor Sawers, seconded by Councillor Petrie moved that Councillor Guild be appointed.
On a division, there voted for Councillor Farquhar - Lord Provost Letford, Councillors de Gernier, Wright, Ward, Shimi, Presswood, Regan, Farquhar, Luke, Sturrock, Glen, Rolfe, Powrie, Mackie and Wallace (15); and for Councillor Guild - Councillors Barrie, Richard Beattie, Dawson, Sawers, FitzPatrick, Petrie, Guild, Corrigan, Dave Beattie, Fordyce and Bowes (11); - Councillors Scott and Borthwick declining to vote - whereupon Councillor Farquhar was appointed and he subscribed the Declaration de fideli; administratione officii.
