Millions of pounds extra for Dundee Residents affected by cancer
In the 12 months from April 2022 to March 2023 the Macmillan Welfare Benefits Service in Dundee has helped more than 1000 patients, carers and families across the city. By co-locating in health settings advisers from Council Advice Services part funded by Macmillan Cancer Support have put £2,554,057 into the pockets of patients with cancer in that time.
The service now covers weekly outreach clinics in various wards and settings across Ninewells Hospital as well as one at Roxy Pot and Palliative Care at Roxburghe House and another in the Ardler Community Hub.
A cancer diagnosis can change a person's financial situation. It may mean you need to stop working, or work less. It can also mean spending more money on things like travelling to appointments or heating at home. But depending on your situation, you may be able to get benefits or other financial support. There are lots of benefits that could help you after a cancer diagnosis, but the system can be confusing. Our Welfare Rights Advisors are here to help.
