Second Adult Rebate (Council Tax)

Anyone who is excluded from receiving a 25% single person discount on their Council Tax bill due to non-dependants living in their household, can apply for Second Adult Rebate.

To qualify for a Second Adult Rebate the second adult(s) ie non-dependants must be:-

• aged 18 or over,
• not liable to pay rent to you, and;
• not jointly liable to pay Council Tax
• on a low income;

We do not take your own income and savings into account.

If you think you may be entitled to Second Adult Rebate, you should claim as soon as possible. You can apply by filling in a Council Tax Reduction application on our online forms page.

Non-dependant's Income	% of Council Tax bill rebated
Income Support, Jobseeker's Allowance (IB), Employment and Support Allowance (IR) or Pension Credit	25%
Gross income of all non-dependants is less than £200.00 per week	15%
Gross income of all non-dependants is between £200.00 and £260.99 per week	7.5%
Gross income of all non-dependants is £261.00 (or more) per week	NIL

In some circumstances a person may be entitled to both Second Adult Rebate and Council Tax Reduction. In these cases we will award the higher of the two benefits.

You must tell us about any change in your circumstances within one calendar month of the date of the change. If you do not do this you may lose out on any increased benefit entitlement.

If you are over 60 and a student, any student grant or student loan you receive will be disregarded when we calculate your benefit entitlement.
