Dundee Schools Music Theatre

Dundee Schools Music Theatre (DSMT) is an inclusive and free of charge project which engages with young people from all the Dundee City Council and Angus Council secondary schools in musical theatre activities resulting in live performances. Since the inception of DSMT in 1999, over 6000 young people have taken the opportunity to become involved.

Make Memories - Make Friends

Musical Theatre is performance art combining singing, dance and drama. At DSMT, we encourage pupils to discover a hidden talent for dance, drama and singing that they never knew they had. Musical theatre activities lead to an increase in self-confidence, problem solving abilities and creative abilities. We at DSMT aim to build an ethos of trust and teamwork and perhaps most important of all FUN.

This year we aim not only to provide experiences on stage but backstage too. If your child wants to learn about technical theatre encourage them to register for DSMT. We will have regular workshops with skilled stage managers, lighting technicians and sound engineers.

Your child will have the opportunity to become part of our 'shadow production team' where they will work alongside our talented production team helping them make decisions on choreography, directing and musical direction.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Who can join DSMT?
Anyone from S1-S6 from a Dundee City Council or Angus Council Secondary School and High School of Dundee is welcome to come along to DSMT. All they need is enthusiasm, we will do the rest.

Does DSMT only offer acting, singing, and dancing?
No, DSMT offers regular workshops in all aspects of musical theatre. Working closely with Dundee and Angus College and Dundee Rep we aim to offer our young people experience of technical theatre as well as on stage experience.

How much do I have to pay?
NOTHING!! There is no charge for DSMT.

When will rehearsals take place?
Rehearsals are on Sundays, starting on 11th September.

All rehearsals should run from 6-8.30pm.

Is there anything I can do to help?
Your role in supporting your child is an important one.

Encourage regular practice and listen to them singing from time to time.
Be positive, especially in the early stages.
Encourage your child to attend rehearsals regularly.
