Plans to support and empower citizens across Dundee have been published.

The Community Learning and Development Plan 2024-27 was presented to the children, families and communities committee.

Improving life chances through learning and personal development and through active citizenship is at the heart of this plan.

The plan was developed through engagement with communities using citizen participation initiatives such as Engage Dundee to inform the plan’s priorities.

This new community learning and development plan will focus on reducing poverty and tackling inequalities, health inequalities, improving life chances for young people and adults, and developing the workforce.

To achieve these outcomes, actions included targeted support for at-risk individuals, localised health and wellbeing opportunities and work to ensure children and young people get the right support at the right time.

This plan builds upon the success of the previous plan, which saw partners across the city work together to respond to the cost-of-living crisis through the city-wide open doors programme, to deliver targeted work with young people and to deliver humanitarian responses to the war in Ukraine.

Depute Convener of Children, Families and Communities Roisin Smith said: “This is an important plan that sets out our aims and ambitions to support our communities and improve the lives of those most vulnerable.

“We all want people to be at the heart of decision making in their community and this plan ensures that. I know the team will continue to go above and beyond to making Dundee a better place for our citizens and ensuring that no one gets left behind.

“I want to thank the Community Learning and Development team for the valuable and important work that they carry out. The great work they do was praised in a recent inspection report from Education Scotland, where they received the highest grading.”

The Children, Families and Communities committee met on Monday 2nd September.
