Dundee's new food festival will take place on Saturday July 6 and Sunday July 7 this summer, it is being confirmed.

Named the Dundee Food Festival it will have the supporting slogan Eat, Drink, Play, Think.

The Festival will take place in early July to provide an ideal showcase for food produce, including soft fruit from the region, and an opportunity to celebrate the start of the summer holiday period.

City council Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure convener Councillor Steven Rome said: "I am very encouraged that so much progress has already been made to deliver the Dundee Food Festival.

"Excitement will no doubt continue to build in the lead-up to July and I am sure people will look forward to hearing more details."

City Council Climate, Environment & Biodiversity Committee Convener Heather Anderson added: "We are placing a strong emphasis on sustainability and the local reaction so far has been extremely heartening."

A Festival Co-ordinator is engaging with partner organisations to ensure they have all the information they need.

An engagement event for people to find out how they can contribute to the Festival was held in February.

This attracted over 50 individuals and organisations, demonstrating support for the Festival and a willingness to contribute ideas.  Further partner engagement events will be organised as the Festival programme is developed.  A Sustainability Charter is being drafted, with input from the steering group, and partners will be asked to sign up to this as part of the agreement to be promoted on the Festival website.

More details, including locations, will be released in the run-up to the Festival.

A Steering Group is now meeting regularly and includes officers from across the council as well as the Eden Project; V&A Dundee; James Hutton Institute; and local food and drink promotor, Eat and Drink Dundee.

A small-scale grant application process has now opened for people or organisations who may want to take part.

This allows them to bid for up to £500 to assist the delivery of activities over the Festival weekend.
