Dundee City Council’s Trading Standards and Police Scotland’s Tayside Division are supporting the national ‘Shut Out Scammers’ campaign which runs from Monday 25th April until 22nd May 2022.

Shut Out Scammers brings together organisations to help minimise risk and prevent harm to vulnerable and elderly people from rogue trading scams and from criminals who commit doorstep crimes.

The city’s campaign activity over the four-week long period will focus on:

Week 1 – Mis-selling of Energy Efficiency Measures;

Week 2 – Doorstep Crime (consumer-driven home improvements);

Week 3 – Doorstep Crime (cold calls);

Week 4 – Empowering consumers.

The campaign aims to remind residents to be vigilant of scammers and to make full use of the Dundee Trusted Trader website or to phone the council’s Trading Standards team on 01382 436260 to help protect from falling victim to scams.

Anyone who thinks they have been scammed by a doorstep caller or wishes to report suspicious activity in the area, should call Police Scotland on 101.

As part of the campaign, a series of social media posts and a radio advertising campaign will also take place to share the #ShutOutScammers messages.
