BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend cancelled13/03/20
In light of the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and advice regarding large gatherings, the following has just been announced by BBC Radio 1:
“After careful consideration we have come to the decision that Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2020 in Dundee will not go ahead. This decision has been made in conjunction with our event partners, in line with the advice from the Scottish Government, and while we know fans looking forward to purchasing tickets will be disappointed, it is important that we prioritise the health and safety of all those involved.”
Commenting on this announcement, leader of the administration John Alexander said: “This is a sensible decision and I am sure that people will understand why it has been made.
“Cancellations are being announced across sport and entertainment as authorities move to deal with a global situation.
“I can fully appreciate that there will be disappointment at this announcement, and as a music fan I share that, but these actions need to be taken now. The health and safety of the public is paramount.
“My advice to everyone is to closely follow the guidance that is being issued by the NHS and Scottish Government."
