Pupils who attend the Future Skills College (FSC) for Early Years Education are getting the opportunity to learn about the Modern Apprenticeships open to them.

As part of the celebrations for Scottish Apprenticeship Week, Dundee City Council alongside Dundee and Angus College are delivering a specific meet the employer event to inform and promote the Modern Apprenticeship those undertaking the Early Years pathway may transition to.

Future Skills students will have the opportunity to meet and question previous FSC participants who are currently undertaking the Modern Apprenticeship.

Pupils attending the Future Skills College are attending a highly innovative programme that manages the transition from full-time education into the world of work. Other pathways on the programme include Hospitality, Plumbing, Electrical, Joinery and Business Education.

In 2019/2020 session 38 school pupils commenced Future Skills College pathways and in 2020/2021 the expectation is that over 60 pupils will join the programmes.

Children and Families Convener, Councillor Stewart Hunter said: “We have an ongoing commitment to provide young people across Dundee with employment opportunities.

“We are working hard to reduce youth unemployment in the city and the wider area and the Future Skills College will help provide young people with relevant skills for the economy.

“Those attending the college are encouraged to achieve and sustain positive destinations when they leave school through this innovative programme.”

Scottish Apprentice Week takes place from 2-6 March and there will be a host of events in Dundee to celebrate.
