A SCHEME which gives local job seekers the building blocks to start a career in the hospitality industry and a guaranteed interview has marked the successful completion of nine candidates.

The intensive three week pre-recruitment training programme was organised by Dundee City Council, Dundee Pipeline Partners, Jobcentre Plus and hospitality employer Sleeperz Hotels. 

John Alexander leader of Dundee City Councilโ€™s said: โ€œSleeperz have given the programme considerable support, not least by offering each trainee a job interview for a permanent position in the hotel when it opens in the summer.

โ€œThis type of training has successfully provided job opportunities for people in the past and is only possible because we have strong partnerships in Dundee.

โ€œThat commitment to recruiting local people along with the hard work put in by the trainees and the agencies involved has created a recognised route to getting a job in hospitality.โ€

Sleeperz Hotels operates stylish design-led city centre hotels for business and leisure travellers. They operate hotels in Cardiff, Newcastle and Edinburgh, offering a friendly service and stylish stays at great value prices.

The Dundee hotel will feature 120 rooms with free and fast Wi-Fi, premium fixtures and fittings, a stylish lounge bar and modern restaurant.

Jobs on offer at the waterfront site include roles in the front desk, food and beverage and housekeeping teams.

Manny Baber, general manager of Sleeperz Hotel Dundee said: โ€œSleeperz Hotels Dundee will create 45 new hospitality jobs when it opens this summer.

โ€œThis is a great opportunity for all the trainees as Dundee is undergoing an exciting transformation which will boost tourism and create a thriving hospitality industry and visitor economy in the city.โ€

The HospitaliTAY Employability Programme provided participants with three weeks training covering skills such as food hygiene, WorldHost, health and safety, First Aid, personal safety and conflict management and employability.

All of the jobs will be permanent and pay the current Scottish Living Wage of ยฃ8.75 an hour.

The nine candidates are - Lyndsey Elliott, Sarah McKay, Cheryl Winter, James Kinmond, Marta Perez, Diane Brown, Andrew Hastings, Bobby-Lee Walsh and Sean Bevan.
