Information Sessions for Recycling Changes

Information Sessions for Recycling Changes Image

Drop in information sessions begin today  (Monday March 19) to explain changes to waste and recycling services that will start in Broughty Ferry, Dryburgh, Gowrie Park, parts of Lochee, Charleston, Menzieshill and the West End next month.

Services in these areas will come into line with the rest of the city from week beginning Monday April 16, when the whole of Dundee will be following the collection model outlined in the Scottish Government's Charter for Household Recycling.

These changes will mean that the blue bin will just be for paper and cardboard, while the burgundy bin will be used for all metals, plastics and cartons.

Glass can no longer be put into burgundy bins and instead people in these areas are being asked to take glass to their local bring site for recycling from that date. A substantial number of new glass bring sites are being introduced in these areas, following local consultation, to make it easier for everyone to recycle their glass.

Dundee City Council neighbourhood services convener Councillor Kevin Cordell said: “This move completes the operation to transform all of Dundee’s waste and recycling services to comply with the Scottish Government’s Charter for Household Recycling

“I would like to thank people across the city who are helping to make a real difference to our recycling rates. We are absolutely committed to making improvements and this is another positive step in that direction.”

Full details on recycling and waste collections can be found at

Anyone who thinks that they may need assisted collections can contact the council on 01382 433710 to discuss this.
