Waste project final bidders announced11/12/15
THE NEXT stage of a long term waste partnership to help two local councils meet ambitious treatment targets has been reached with the announcement of the final two bidders.
MVV Environment Services Ltd and Veolia ES Aurora Ltd will go forward to the next stage of the bidding process.
Advertised on the Public Contracts Scotland website 12 months ago the contract to treat and dispose of residual waste from the two council areas for 20-25 years from 2017 received a strong response from the market.
During the contract period both councils will continue to take their residual waste to Baldovie where it will be dealt with by the successful bidder at a secured price. The project will ensure that waste is diverted from landfill and used to create energy.
The contract will seek to secure the long term production of electricity from waste and potentially supply heat to local energy users. In addition, the successful bidder will commit to working with both councils to ensure real and sustainable community benefits.
A preferred bidder will be announced next summer with a contract expected to be signed in early 2017.
