II COST OF THE SCHOOL DAY INITIATIVE
On a reference to Article IV of the minute of meeting of the Policy and Resources Committee of 14th November, 2016, there was submitted Report No 402-2019 by the Executive Director of Children and Families Service presenting the recommendations of the Cost of the School Day (COSD) report produced by Child Poverty Action Group Scotland in collaboration with staff and pupils from schools across Dundee.
The Committee agreed to instruct the Executive Director of Children and Families Service to continue to monitor the implementation of the Cost of the School Day Action Plans that formed part of School Improvement Plans.
III CHILDREN AND FAMILIES SERVICE IMPROVEMENT PLAN 2019-2022
There was submitted Report No 403-2019 by the Executive Director of Children and Families Service providing a summary of the first Children and Families Service Improvement Plan covering the period 2019-2022. The Plan had been informed by the outcomes of a Public Service Improvement Framework self-evaluation exercise involving managers and staff across the service.
It described progress made since the integration of Education, Childrens Social Work and Community Justice and outlined how the service would build on this through a consistent focus on key priorities and related actions. It focused on holistic approaches which reduced inequalities and narrowed the attainment gap.
The Committee agreed:-
(i) to note progress made and approve the content of the first Children and Families Service Improvement Plan 2019-2022, as attached at Appendix 1 of the report; and
(ii) to request the Executive Director of Children and Families Service to submit an update on the implementation of the plan in 12 months.
Stewart HUNTER, Convener.
