II PUBLIC OPEN SPACE IMPROVEMENTS 2014/2015

There was submitted Agenda Note AN207-2014 detailing proposals to undertake Public Open Space Improvements at a number of locations which had been developed to enhance the amenity whilst, at the same time, reduce the long term maintenance burden. The proposed measures would also help reduce Health and Safety concerns.

(i) Lochee Bypass Adjacent to Underpass - Improvements to existing planting with low maintenance shrubs.

(ii) Yarrow Terrace/Dochart Terrace - Regenerate existing shrub beds including reshaping and replanting with new shrub varieties and establish new grass areas.

(iii) Greenbank Place - Replacement of existing conifer hedge.

(iv) Riverside Drive -

- Redesign existing planting schemes at three roundabouts;

- Regenerate and enhance the existing tree plantations, incorporating new shrub planting and creation of new wildflower areas; and

- Recontour grass banking, install new seating and litter bins and minor improvements to access track west of Bridgeview Station Restaurant.

(v) Victoria Park - Redesign soft landscaping at south east entrance including reshaping of planted areas, removal of hedging, together with the installation of seating and litter bins.

(vi) Clatto Park - Undertake minor surfacing improvements to access path directly in front or and to the east of the existing building facility.

(vii) Marketgait - Redesign of planted areas at West Port and Seagate roundabouts.

(viii) Salton Crescent - Regenerate area by undertaking landscaping and contouring works including the removal of existing fencing and shrubs and establishing new grass areas.

(ix) Fintry Park - Installation of safety trip adjacent to south east entrance.

(x) Berwick Drive - Regenerate southern embankment east of entrance to Braeview Academy by removing a number of tree plantations, reshaping and establishing new grass areas.

(xi) Windmill Gardens - Complete final phase of high amenity planting and reshaping works.

(xii) Dawson Park - Remove old heather planted area and return to grass. Upgrade path areas at sunken garden and upgrade signage at two access areas to the park.

The Director of Corporate Services advised that the above costs of 100,000 could be met from allowances for Open Space Improvements within the Environment Departments Capital Budget 2014/2015.

The Committee agreed that the above proposals be approved and the Director of Environment be authorised to undertake these works.

Craig MELVILLE, Convener.
