II DAWSON PARK TENNIS COURT UPGRADE

There was submitted Agenda Note AN153-2014, making reference to Article III of the minute of meeting of this Committee of 20th May, 2013 which approved the action plan for the upgrading of tennis courts in the city. Following approval of that report upgrade works have been carried out to the tennis courts at Fairmuir Park and South Road Park.

The tennis courts at Dawson Park were identified as part of the early actions and as a centre for the development of tennis in the east of the city. Officers had been working in partnership with Scottish Tennis, the Lawn Tennis Association and sportscotland, together with other stakeholders, in developing proposals to improve these facilities. The proposals included a new porous surface, the upgrading of the infrastructure including provision of new floodlighting to the court, lining and fence. The works would also include the provision new socket post strainers and netting to the court. It was intended to include a system of control and charging for the use of the floodlighting.

The City Engineer had received an offer through the Roads Maintenance Partnership with Tayside Contracts of 116,104.73 for carrying out these works, which together with allowances for fees of 13,907.30 and contingencies of 11,500, giving a total cost of 141,512.03.

The Director of Corporate Services advised that the above costs could be met from external funding of up to 64,671 by sportscotland, 27,878 by the Lawn Tennis Association, with the balance being funded from allowances within the Capital Plan 2014/2015.

The Committee authorised the acceptance of the offer from Tayside Contracts and approved the above expenditure.
