I ADDITIONAL FUNDING FROM THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT THE DELIVERY OF TWO HOURS OFPHYSICAL EDUCATION
There was submitted Report No 171-2012 by the Director of Education seeking approval to use additional funding from the Scottish Government to support the delivery of two hours of Physical Education (PE) in Primary Schools and two periods in S1-S4 in Secondary Schools.
The Committee approved the proposals to use the additional funding over a two year period to:-
(i) increase the number of MUGA's (Multi Usage Games Areas) to a further ten primary schools;
(ii) develop the current range of staff development opportunities to enable an increased number of primary teachers to undertake an additional qualification or extend their current expertise in the teaching of PE;
(iii) promote and develop the existing guidelines on the teaching of PE in the primary sector; and
(iv) develop a set of guidelines on the delivery of relevant courses and activities in PE to reflect the needs and interests of pupils in S5 and S6 of secondary education.
Elizabeth F FORDYCE, Convener.
