II STATUTORY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS 2007/2008 - COMPARATIVE DATA

There was submitted Report No 33-2009 by the Head of Finance advising the Sub-Committee on the performance of Dundee City Council in relation to the other Scottish Local Authorities as defined by the Accounts Commission's recent publication of all authorities performance for the financial year 2007/2008 and further advising the Sub-Committee on the performance of Dundee City Council in relation to the other main Scottish cities.

The Sub-Committee noted that the Accounts Commission had recently published the statutory performance indicators for all Scottish Councils on its website for the financial year 2007/2008. As last year, the Accounts Commission had issued no press releases on the data. This report analysed the published information from Dundee.

The Sub-Committee:-

(i) noted the improved overall performance level from 73% to 79% in terms of the Audit Scotland profile;

(ii) noted the Council's performance in relation to the other main cities;

(iii) encouraged officers to seek further improvements in performance as recommended by Best Value; and

(iv) reviewed the items in Appendix 2 to the report, particularly with regard to red colour coded items to assess if there was further scope for improvement. Also items ranked just below 16th were closely considered to assess whether or not the overall performance level could be raised.

Kevin KEENAN, Convener.
