I REPAIR OF MEMORIAL HEADSTONES

Councillor Duncan declared a financial interest in this item by virtue of his employment and took no part in the discussion thereof.

There was submitted Report No 460-2008 by Director of Leisure and Communities seeking approval for the contract for the restoration of Headstone Memorials in Dundee's Cemeteries.

The Committee agreed that the tender received by Vermicom Environmental Services, Lochgelly, Fife be accepted.

II CURLING DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

The Convener, Lord Provost Letford, Bailie Scott and Councillor Duncan declared a non-financial interest in this item by virtue of their Council appointment to Dundee Ice Arena Board.

There was submitted Agenda Note AN181-2008 advising the Committee that Dundee City Council had been invited to continue the partnership with the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in promoting and developing curling. The partnership included Perth and Kinross Leisure, Dundee Ice Arena and the Dewars Centre, Perth. The outcome was to lead to an increase in participation, interest and development of curling at all levels including children and increase the awareness of both the sport and curling in the context within the Dundee area and with Dundee Ice Arena as a focus. The partnership would involve the full-time Curling Development Officer actively promoting the sport within key groups, schools as well as coach development and offering a pathway to participation and performance. The work would be focussed on Dundee Ice Arena. The contribution sought directly from Dundee City Council was 2,744 in 2008/2009, 2,881 in 2009/2010 and 3,025 in 2010/2011 with the agreement period being October 2008/2011.

The Committee approved Dundee City Council working within the partnership and agreed the contribution which could be met from existing revenue budgets.

Richard McCREADY, Convener.
