I DUNDEE COMMUNITY SAFETY PARTNERSHIP LOCAL ACTION FUND: YOUTH ACTIVITIES EVALUATIONAND MONITORING REPORT

 

There was submitted Report No 289-2008 by Co-Chairpersons of Dundee Community Safety Partnership seeking approval of the 2007/2008 Evaluation and Monitoring Report to the Scottish Government for the dispersal of the Local Action Fund: Youth Activities as per the conditions of grant award.

 

The Committee agreed to:-

 

(i) approve the 2007/2008 monitoring and evaluation report to the Scottish Government;

 

(ii) note the increase in levels of participation in youth activities under the initiative; and

 

(iii) note the extension of this funding initiative by the Scottish Government post 1st April, 2008.

 

II DUNDEE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S CENTRE - GRANT

 

Councillor Keenan declared a non-financial interest in this item by virtue of his Council appointment to the Board of Dundee International Women's Centre.

 

There was submitted Report No 297-2008 by the Director of Leisure and Communities seeking approval for the payment of the annual grant award to the Dundee International Women's Centre for the financial year 2008/2009.

 

The Committee approved the grant award of 8,291 to Dundee International Women's Centre as governed by their Service Level Agreement with Dundee City Council.

 

III VOLUNTEER CENTRE DUNDEE - GRANT

 

There was submitted Report No 298-2008 by the Director of Leisure and Communities seeking approval for the payment of the annual grant award to Volunteer Centre Dundee.

 

The Committee approved the grant award of 10,130 to Volunteer Centre Dundee.

 

IV SERVICE LEVEL AGREEMENT WITH DUNDEE VOLUNTARY ACTION - YEAR 2 FINANCIAL SUPPORT

 

There was submitted Report No 299-2008 by the Director of Leisure and Communities seeking approval for a grant award to Dundee Voluntary Action as part of a three year Service Level Agreement.

 

The Committee agreed to release the payment of 41,450 to Dundee Voluntary Action following the satisfactory assessment of the Service Specification contained in Schedule 1 of the Agreement during 2008/2009.

 

V AWARDING OF FUNDING FOR CONSERVATION OF ART FROM MUSEUMS GALLERIES SCOTLAND RECOGNITIONSCHEME AND WOODMANSTERNE TRUST - McMANUS FUNDING AWARD

 

There was submitted Report No 311-2008 by the Director of Leisure and Communities advising the Committee of two awards totalling 42,840 for the conservation and glazing of works of art and request approval for appointing contractors to undertake the works.

 

The Committee approved the recommended proposals to undertake remedial conservation of 20 easel paintings, remedial conservation of five picture frames and the supply of specialist glass.

 

VI LOCHEE SWIMMING AND LEISURE CENTRE ANNUAL MAINTENANCE CLOSURE

 

The Convener, Lord Provost Letford, Bailie Wallace and Councillors Asif and Duncan declared a non-financial interest in this item by virtue of their Council appointment to Dundee Leisure Trust Board.

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN102-2008 advising the Committee that to enable boiler testing, essential maintenance and a programme of deep-cleaning to take place, permission was requested for Lochee Swimming and Leisure Centre to close for the usual annual period from Tuesday, 19th August, 2008 until Friday, 29th August, 2008 both dates inclusive.

 

The Committee agreed this closure request.

 

VII MAJOR PROJECT GRANTS

 

There was submitted Report No 310-2008 by the Director of Leisure and Communities making a recommendation for grant awards from the Major Project Grants (Youth Arts Grant Fund).

 

The Committee approved the allocation of grant awards to Changing Horizons, Different Circle, Douglas Lads Club, Hilltown Youth Groups, Hot Chocolate Trust, Summer Arts Group and The Shore as detailed below:-

 

7                                             904 to Changing Horizons music project towards costs of guitar tuition, song writing workshops delivered by professional musicians, and studio recording sessions leading to the production of CD of young people's own music.

 

7                                             760 to the Different Circle Group to enable young people to participate in a programme of arts activities, working with a professional artist to develop new creative skills as young artists and as peer educators.

 

7                                             150 to Douglas Lads Club towards the cost of holding an Opening Event to present their recently completed Arts Mural project.

 

7                                             710 to Hilltown Youth Groups towards the costs of a visual arts project, enabling young people to work with professional artists and developing site specific work for various community venues in the Hilltown and surrounding areas.

 

7                                             700 to Hot Chocolate Trust towards the costs of a summer programme of sculpture, graffiti and video workshops, delivered by professional artists and encouraging participants to explore current youth issues.

 

7                                             315 to the Summer Arts Group towards the costs of delivering a taster programme of arts and craft activities to young people with little access to arts.

 

VIII TENDERS RECEIVED

 

There was submitted Report No 319-2008 by the City Architectural Services Officer giving details of offers received for the undernoted contract:-

 

(a) FAIRMUIR PARK PAVILION - INSTALLATION OF FIRE ALARM

 

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated offer from Dundee Contract Services in the sum of 5,202.35, to which required to be added allowances of 833 for professional services, giving a total cost of 6,035.35.
