I BAXTER PARK - VARIOUS WORKS BY DUNDEE CONTRACT SERVICES
There was submitted Agenda Note AN86-2008 seeking approval for the undertaking of works at Baxter Park by Dundee Contract Services to complete the restoration plan. These were:-
7 Bingham Terrace entrance gate piers to be reinforced so that they would be capable of supporting the gates to this vehicular access. The gates and metal work would be sub-contracted to Ballentine's of Bo'Ness who previously undertook the railing restoration to the rest of the perimeter of the park;
7 Installation of duck boards to the Main Pavilion roof to protect the lead work and allow for access;
7 Installation of a willow fence around the perimeter of the Heritage Weeping Oak Tree. This would be undertaken by DCS Forestry Section who could supply the materials and oversee the work of a local willow weaver. Friends of Baxter Park and the local community would be involved in the work.
It was proposed that this would be taken forward via a negotiated tender with Dundee Contract Services for a value of 25,500 plus fees to Architectural Services of approximately 4,000. This expenditure would be part of the Park Restoration Plan which was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic Scotland and the Leisure and Communities Department. Expenditure would be met from a combination of the project funding. These works would be the last of the five year project and would complete the restoration plan.
The Committee approved accordingly.
