Prior to the commencement of business, the Committee expressed their condolences to the family of Eve Anderson, a pupil at Craigie High School, who passed away on 9th March, 2008.

 

I HM INSPECTORATE OF EDUCATION - FOLLOW THROUGH REPORT - PARK PLACE PRIMARY SCHOOL

 

There was submitted and noted report relative to the above.

 

II RETAINING RESERVED PLACES IN SCHOOLS 2008/2009

 

Reference was made to Article V of the minute of meeting of the this Committee of 19th February, 2001, where approval was given to retain reserved places in certain schools to accommodate children moving into the catchment area during the school year.

 

There was submitted Report No 155-2008 by the Director of Education reviewing the reserved places and proposing an allocation of reserved places for session 2008/2009.

 

The Committee approved the proposals to reserve places in schools as set out in Appendix 1 of the report noted below:-

III OUTCOME OF THE FORMAL CONSULTATION PROCESS ON THE PROPOSAL TO BUILD A REPLACEMENT KINGSPARK SCHOOL ON BALFIELDPLAYING FIELDS

 

There was submitted Report No 152-2008 by the Director of Education detailing representations made during the formal publication and consultation exercise relative to the above.

 

The Committee approved the proposal to build a replacement Kingspark School on Balfield playing fields.

 

IV EDUCATION BEST VALUE REVIEW - ATTAINMENT (EARLY YEARS)

 

There was submitted Report No 158-2008 by the Director of Education bringing to the attention of the Committee the findings of the Best Value Review Group - Attainment (Early Years).

 

The Committee:-

 

(i) approved the report; and

 

(ii) instructed the Director of Education to implement the recommendations of the Best Value Review Group - Attainment (Early Years).

 

V PROPOSED GRANT AID TO PLAYGROUPS AND PARENT AND TODDLER GROUPS

 

There was submitted Report No 120-2008 by the Director of Education seeking approval to award grants to local Playgroups and Parent Toddler Groups to assist them in developing high quality play experiences for young children in local communities.

 

The Committee approved the proposals contained in the report and the award of grants totalling 2,400 to Playgroups and Parent Toddler Groups, as outlined in the Appendix to the report noted below:-

There was submitted Report No 121-2008 by the Director of Education seeking approval from the Committee to allocate funding relative to the above to support projects in the Voluntary Sector.
