The minute of meeting of this Committee of 21st August, 2006 was held as read.

I TENDERS RECEIVED

 

There was submitted Report No 539-2006 by the City Architectural Services Officer detailing tenders received and requesting a decision thereon:-

 

(i) CRAIGIE HIGH SCHOOL - RE-ROOFING PHASE 2

 

The Committee agreed to accept the offer negotiated with Dundee Contract Services for 114,565.50 together with allowances of 3,000.00 for contingencies; 1,118.00 for Planning Supervisor and 11,000.00 for professional services, making a total of 129,683.50.

 

II THE SCOTTISH SCHOOLS DIGITAL NETWORK (SSDN) NATIONAL INTRANET - ACCESS TO SCHOOLS

 

There was submitted Report No 536-2006 by the Director of Education seeking approval to sign a Customer Agreement with the Scottish Executive Education Department and Research Machines Ltd relative to the above.

 

The Committee noted the contents of the report and approved the request to sign the SSDN Customer Agreement.

 

III EDUCATION (SCOTLAND) ACT 1980 - APPEAL COMMITTEE

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN315-2006 informing the Committee that it had been necessary to seek nominations for an additional Chairperson to Chair the Appeal Committee.

 

The Depute Chief Executive (Support Services) advised that the undernoted person be appointed with immediate effect for the remainder of the lifetime of the present Council:-

Mr Gavin Smith (Former Head Teacher, Craigie High School).

 

The Committee approved the above.

 

IV EDUCATION TRANSPORT CONTRACTS - CONVEYANCE OF SCHOLARS, INCLUDING SPORTS CONVEYANCE

 

On a reference to Article XI of the Recess Sub-Committee of 20th July, 2006, there was submitted Agenda Note AN316-2006.

 

The Committee were asked to note that transport contracts DSP/3, DSP/16 and DSP/46 which were awarded to Dundee 505050 Limited had been awarded to other firms as Dundee 505050 could not fulfil the contracts.

 

In each case the second lowest tenderer was awarded the contract.

 

DSP/3 - Thistle Coaches

DSP/16 - Tele Taxis

DSP/46 - Handy Taxis

 

The Committee noted the above.

 

PART 2 - CONFIDENTIAL ITEMS

 

The Committee resolved under Section 50(A)(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 that the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the undernoted items of business on the grounds that they involved the likely disclosure of information as defined in Paragraphs 1 and 5 of Part I of Schedule 7A of the Act.

 

V REQUEST FOR EDUCATION AT HOME

 

There was submitted Report No 524-2006 by the Director of Education bringing to the attention of the Committee an application for education at home.

 

The Committee agreed the application for education at home.

 

VI EARLY RETIREMENT

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN317-2006 recommending the early retirement of ER59/06.

 

The Committee agreed the early retirement with effect from 10th January, 2007 in accordance with the Teachers' (Compensation for Premature Retirement and Redundancy) (Scotland) Regulations 1996 and having noted the financial implications.
