I LOCHEE HOUSING AND SOCIAL WORK OFFICE - NEW BUILD PREMISES

 

On a reference to Article I of minute of meeting of the Housing Committee held on 20th February, 2006.

 

There was submitted Joint Report No 116-2006 by the Director of Housing, Director of Social Work and City Architectural Services Officer detailing the negotiated Agreed Maximum Price (AMP) in respect of the above works.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the AMP from Forman Construction Limited, Dundee, in the amount of 385,625.00 giving a total cost of 2,385,573.42.

II THE INTEGRATED INSPECTION OF THE ELMS SECURE UNIT

 

There was submitted Report No 142-2006 by the Director of Social Work seeking approval of the Joint Action Plan from Social Work and Education in response to the Integrated Inspection report received in December 2005 following the inspection in June 2005 of the education and care arrangements at the Elms Secure Unit. The Care Commission and the HMIe Inspectorate of Education had conducted the integrated inspection.

 

The Committee agreed:-

 

(i) to approve the Joint Social Work and Education Action Plan as the response to the Integrated Inspection report on the Elms Secure Unit as detailed in the report;

 

(ii) to note the Director of Social Work's intention to bring forward a report to Committee advising of the progress within the residential services in Dundee which would include recommendations from the improvement plans for the Elms Secure and Close Support Unit; and

 

(iii) to approve the continuation of the working agreement with Angus Council, which had been originally agreed on a pilot basis in 2002, to provide a secure placement when available to young people residing in Angus and requiring secure care provision.

 

III LINLATHEN FAMILY CENTRE - DOUGLAS HOUSE

 

On a reference to Article I of minute of this Committee of 21st November 2005 wherein a programme of minor capital works was agreed.

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN65-2006 reporting that one programme listed was the conversion of the Linlathen Family Centre to a resource base for the Youth Justice Team. It was now proposed that this project be funded from Scottish Executive money which had been ring fenced for Youth Justice Initiatives.

 

It was further proposed that the resulting balance of capital funds be used to replace the boilers at Douglas House. This work was anticipated to cost 100,000 and was required as a matter of urgency.

 

The Committee agreed to the proposals.

 

IV TENDERS RECEIVED - MARKET MEWS

 

There was submitted Report No 150-2006 by the City Architectural Services Officer seeking acceptance of the offer received from Scan Building Services Limited for alteration and refurbishment including new air conditioning system and new lighting and power to Market Mews for the Welfare Rights System as a partnering project.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the offer by Scan Building Services Ltd, Dundee, as a partnering project, amounting to 64,000.00 to which required to be added 6,000 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 70,000.00.

 

V ASSOCIATION OF DIRECTORS OF SOCIAL WORK ANNUAL CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION 2006

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN66-2006 reporting that the Annual Conference of the Association of Directors of Social Work would take place at Crieff Hydro Hotel from Wednesday, 10th May to Friday, 12th May 2006.

 

The cost of attendance would be approximately 550 (plus VAT) per delegate excluding travel and subsistence allowances.

 

The Committee agreed that elected member attendance at the Conference be on the basis of one member of the Administration, one member of the SNP and one member of the Conservative Group.
