I PUBLIC OPEN SPACES  LANDSCAPING IMPROVEMENTS

There was submitted Agenda Note AN355-2005 informing the Committee of proposals to carry out landscape improvements at a number of sites in the City. These works involved removal of overgrown shrub and tree plantations, grading of the soil, grassing and planting of specimen trees and shrubs and would aid future landscape maintenance by reducing revenue costs as well as enhancing the amenity of the area.

The following sites were selected and costed as follows:-

1. Berwick Drive south side from Haddington Avenue to Aberlady Crescent landscaping of planted walkway - 22,000.

2. Pentland Avenue & Balgay Road landscaping of banks, traffic island and fencing works - 12,000.

3. Wellgate Housing Development removal of overgrown shrubs and tree plantations and replace with grass and/or new ground cover planting - 41,087.

4. Watson Street Housing Development removal of overgrown shrubs and tree plantations and replace with grass and/or new ground cover planting - 24,913.

The total costs of 100,000 would be met from the provision of 100,000 allowed for Public Open Spaces in the Quality of Life Programme for 2005/2006.

The Committee agreed that the works be carried out by Dundee Contract Services at an estimated cost of 100,000.
