I MINUTES OF MEETINGS OF SCHOOL ATTENDANCE SUB-COMMITTEE OF 23RD AND 24TH MARCH 2004

 

The minutes of the above meetings (Appendices I and II) were submitted for information.

 

II PARENTAL SURVEY 2003

 

There was submitted Report No 277-2004 by the Director of Education informing the Committee of the results of the second Citywide survey of parental opinion carried out in Dundee's schools.

 

The Committee:-

 

(i) noted the contents of the report;

 

(ii)instructed the Director of Education to communicate the results of the Citywide parental survey to all educational establishments, congratulating them on the positive results obtained; and

 

(iii)instructed the Director of Education to carry out a further Citywide parental satisfaction survey in February 2006, and report the results to the Education Committee.

 

III FOCUS ON ACHIEVEMENT

 

There was submitted Report No 278-2004 by the Director of Education relative to the above.

 

The Committee instructed the Director of Education to take forward the preparations for and to hold the first Citywide Awards Ceremony.

 

IV TENDERS RECEIVED

 

There was submitted Report No 285-2004 by the City Architectural Services Officer detailing tenders received and requesting a decision thereon:-

 

(i) OUR LADY'S PRIMARY SCHOOL - REPLACEMENT OF ROOF DOME

 

The Committee agreed to accept the schedule of rates offer from Dundee Contract Services for the replacement of roof dome and associated flashings etc. at Our Lady's Primary School for 8,000 together with allowances of 1,200 giving a total of 9,200.

 

(ii) MORGAN ACADEMY - REMOVAL OF ALL FURNITURE AND EQUIPMENT

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer received from Alexander Removals Ltd., Dundee for the removal of all furniture and equipment from Morgan Academy (Lawton Road) to the original building for 63,060 together with allowances of 9,458 giving a total of 72,518.

 

(iii) ST VINCENTS PRIMARY SCHOOL - WINDOW REPLACEMENT PHASE 3

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest valid offer received from Muirfield (Contracts) Ltd for window replacement phase 3 at St Vincent's Primary School for 18,692.90 together with allowances of 2,805 giving a total of 21,497.90.

 

 

The Committee resolved under Section 50(A)(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 that the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the undernoted item of business on the grounds that it involved the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in Paragraph 9 of Part I of Schedule 7(a) of the Act.

 

V SITE AT 373/379 STRATHMARTINE ROAD, DUNDEE

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN173-2004 advising the Committee of the acquisition of a site at 373/379 Strathmartine Road, Dundee.

 

The Committee approved the acquisition of the site at 373/379 Strathmartine Road, remitted to the Director of Economic Development to conclude the negotiations and authorised the Depute Chief Executive (Support Services) to conclude the legal formalities.
