The minute of meeting of this Committee of 15th December, 2003 was held as read.

In the absence of both the Convener and the Depute Convener Councillor Jill Shimi, Leader of the Administration took the Chair for the duration of the business on the agenda.

 

I SOCIAL WORK DEPARTMENT SERVICE PLAN

 

Bailie Borthwick declared a non-financial interest in the undernoted item by virtue of his employment with Age Concern which would be affected by certain aspects of the plan.

 

There was submitted Report No 69-2004 by the Director of Social Work seeking approval of the Social Work Department Service Plan for 2004-2007.

 

The Committee agreed that the content of the Social Work Department Service Plan for 2004-2007 be approved subject to amendment to include more detail on work to be undertaken by Criminal Justice Services with regard to victims of crime.

 

II SUPPORTING YOUNG PEOPLE LEAVING CARE

 

There was submitted Report No 49-2004 by the Director of Social Work advising of additional resources that would be allocated to Dundee City Council by the Scottish Executive. These resources would be designed to improve services for young people leaving care and to implement the new duties arising from the regulations on Supporting Young People Leaving Care in Scotland, which would come into force on 1st April, 2004.

 

The Committee agreed:-

 

(i) that the content of the report be approved; and

 

(ii) that the new duties that would arise in respect of young people leaving local authority care be acknowledged.

III PAYMENT TO VOLUNTARY ORGANISATION - SCOTTISH HUNTINGTON'S ASSOCIATION

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN25-2004 reporting that Scottish Huntington's Association (SHA) provided a range of care and support services for Huntington's disease sufferers and their families across Scotland. It was also reported that SHA would be developing further services and resources to meet the organisation's general aims and objectives. A Service Level Agreement covering services specifically for Dundee citizens would be negotiated and would be in place in 2004/05.

 

Pending agreement for 2004/05 the Committee agreed to a one-off payment of 11,900 for 2003/04 which would be funded from the Social Work Department Revenue Budget.
