I DIRECT PAYMENTS - IMPLEMENTATION

Reference was made to Article III of the minute of meeting of the Social Work Committee held on 17th December, 2001 wherein it was agreed that the Director of Social Work be instructed to set in place arrangements for the implementation of direct payments and that approval also be given for the allocation of funding for this purpose.

There was submitted Agenda Note AN333-2003 which reported that as of 1st June, 2003 the Council had a duty to make direct payments. Direct payments would allow people to receive money from the Department allowing them to arrange and purchase their own services. The Committee agreed:-

(i) that the rates of payment as indicated in the agenda note be approved;

(ii) that the Director of Social Work be given delegated authority to make additional rates of payment in response to individual circumstances; and

(iii) that it be noted that the rates as detailed in the agenda note would also be used when calculating the contribution an individual should make towards the cost of the service.
