I MINUTE OF MEETING OF SCHOOL ATTENDANCE SUB-COMMITTEE OF 17TH SEPTEMBER 2002
The minute of the above meeting (Appendix 1) was submitted for information.
II DUNDEE SCHOOLS PPP PROJECT
Reference was made to Article I of the minute of meeting of this Committee of 16th September 2002. There was submitted Agenda Note AN246-2002 asking the Committee to note that there was an error in Report No 672-2002, Appendix 6, page 24, paragraph c, line 3, which should have read "Linlathen Child and Family Centre".
The Committee noted accordingly.
III REVIEW OF SERVICE DELIVERY AT WHITFIELD COMMUNITY EARLY YEARS CENTRE
There was submitted Report No 747-2002 by the Director of Education seeking approval to conduct a review of service delivery at Whitfield Community Early Years Centre.
The Committee agreed to:-
(i) note and approve the contents of the Report;
(ii) approve proposals to conduct a review of services at Whitfield Early Years Centre;
(iii) approve proposals to investigate the feasibility of updating admission and charging policies; and
(iv) remitted the Director of Education to conduct a consultation exercise with staff and service users in order to bring forward proposals for future development of the service to the Education Committee in December 2002.
IV CHILDCARE FUNDING TO SUPPORT MID CRAIGIE AND LINLATHEN UNDER 12'S PROJECT
There was submitted Report No 748-2002 by the Director of Education seeking approval for the provision of childcare funding for the Mid Craigie and Linlathen Under 12's Project as detailed in appendix 1 of the report.
The Committee agreed to note the contents of the report and approved the provision of funding to the Mid Craigie and Linlathen Under 12's Project.
V SUPPORTING YOUNG PEOPLE WHOSE LIVES ARE AFFECTED BY DISABILITY TO PARTICIPATE IN LEISUREACTIVITIES
There was submitted Report No 749-2002 by the Director of Education seeking approval to award funding to continue and further extend the project provided by the Voluntary Organisation "Kids Unlimited" to support young people whose lives are affected by disability.
The Committee noted and approved the proposals contained within the report and approved funding of 18,769 to Kids Unlimited.
VI THE CHILDREN AND YOUNG PERSONS ACT 1963 - THE CHILDREN'S (PERFORMANCES) REGULATIONS1968
There was submitted Report No 745-2002 by the Director of Education advising the Committee of the "Treading of the Boards" Youth Music Theatre for the purposes of Section 37 of the Children and Young Persons Act 1963.
The Committee agreed to approve the "Treading the Boards" Youth Music Theatre for the purposes of Section 37 of the Children and Young Persons Act 1963.
VII SEMINAR - "SCHOOL BUILDING - DESIGN FOR LEARNING"
There was submitted Agenda Note AN267-2002 informing the Committee of a free, one-day seminar, organised by the Scottish Executive, to be held at the Edinburgh Conference Centre, Heriot Watt University on 12th November 2002. The purpose of the event was "to enable Politicians, Council Officers, Architects, Construction and Finance Professionals to discuss and exchange views on how best users' requirements can be captured and met within the design process".
Instructions were requested as to the attendance of members of the PPP Project Board at this event.
The Committee agreed that members of the Education Committee and PPP Project Board could attend the seminar.
