Ready Player One
Arguably one of the most anticipated blockbusters of 2018, the moment has finally come when Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Ernest Cline's best-selling sci-fi book Ready Player One is here.
The year is 2045 and the world is on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the huddled masses have found a glimmer of salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe designed by the eccentric programming genius James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. Our unlikely young hero is Wade Watts (Mud's Tye Sheridan), who decides to join the contest and is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.
Full of pop-culture references to make the fan boys and girls happy, in the hands of a master storyteller like Spielberg, there's every indication that Ready Player One will be just as entertaining for the uninitiated.
