Dundee householders are being encouraged to renew their garden waste permits for 2024 following the opening of the ordering system.

Residents are urged to plan ahead to ensure they are signed up well in advance of the first collections scheduled to take place in March. The cost of a permit is £45.00 per bin and covers the 20 collections allocated to eligible households across the year which works out at £2.25 per collection.

Customers who opted-in to the scheme for 2023 will receive invitations either by letter or email to re-apply for 2024 collections. Reminders also feature on the 2024 collection calendars and on the Council’s website and social media channels.

Climate, Environment & Biodiversity Convener Councillor Heather Anderson said: “The number of sign-ups to the Garden Waste Permit scheme since its inception has shown how committed residents are to recycle their garden waste materials for the greater good.

“We continue to provide a high-standard, convenient kerbside collection service for householders who wish to opt-in and have their green waste collected and recycled.

“The collection service contributes towards the city’s overall recycling efforts and is a positive step in our collective efforts in tackling climate change locally.”

Members of the public can always dispose of their garden waste free of charge at either Baldovie or Riverside recycling centres.

The garden waste collected from residents is used to create PAS 100 quality-certified Discovery Compost at the Riverside Composting facility, which is then available for purchase by local gardeners, community groups, and farmers.

Home composting bins, with a 330-litre unit capacity, are available directly from the Council, or can be bought in many retail outlets.

Further information, frequently asked questions and the online permit application form can be found on the Dundee City Council website.
