Smoke Control Areas and the Clean Air Act

Image of smoke over DundeeThe Clean Air Act 1993 consolidated the 1956 and 1968 Clean Air Acts along with other associated clean air legislation. The 1956 and 1968 Acts were introduced to deal with the smogs of the 1950's and 1960's caused by widespread burning of coal for domestic heating and industry. The 1993 Act aims to protect both the environment and the quality of the air that we breathe.
