VI TROTTICK AND DEN O MAINS RENOVATION PROJECT

There was submitted Agenda Note AN196-2007 advising the Committee that Trottick Ponds and Den O' Mains Ponds had suffered from the build up of silt deposits which had impacted on their habitat and visual appearance. The Leisure and Communities Department had secured external funding through the SITA Tayside Biodiversity Action Fund for a renovation project which would excavate silt thus restoring the ponds and creating habitat improvements. A total of 9,050 had been awarded from the fund which was administrated by Perth and Kinross Quality of Life Trust from the landfill tax credit scheme.

The work was planned from three weeks starting 17th September, 2007. The silt removed would be utilised as a soil improver in Caird Park and on a field near Trottick Ponds. At Trottick Ponds, local people would be encouraged to help with the creation of small pools, an otter shelter and with surveys to monitor wildlife improvements.

The project was being led by the Countryside Ranger Service with assistance from the Landscape Design Team and Parks and Outdoor Leisure Section.

The Committee noted the works as detailed.
