III UPDATE ON SCHOOL SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS
A paper was circulated updating members on school security arrangements.
Following comment from the Trade Unions, the Committee agreed that the report did not provide the information which the Committee had sought on an assessment of the adequacy of those arrangements.
It was agreed that further audits would take place and a report will be made available for the next meeting as per the minute of meeting held in December 2000. It was reiterated by the Convener that the Education Department takes security in schools very seriously.
It was agreed that consideration should be given to widening the reporting of violent incidents to include incidences of breaches of school security.
Update was given on measures taken to solve problems surrounding school door security systems.
III SEVERE WEATHER ARRANGEMENTS
This item had been raised at the Corporate JCC re equitable treatment during severe weather conditions for teaching staff and staff working in other Council Departments.
After discussion it was agreed that the status quo should remain.
