The minute of meeting of this Committee of 17th December, 2001 was held as read.

I RIVERSIDE PARK AND CAIRD PARK - APPLICATION TO HOLD CARNIVALS

 

The Director of Leisure and Parks reported that a request had been received from Hornes Pleasure Fair, Dunfermline for consent to operate a carnival between 8th and 14th April, 2002 inclusive at Riverside Park and between 30th April and 30th May, 2002 at Caird Park.

 

The Committee agreed that permission be granted and remitted to the Director of Economic Development to negotiate a licence fee subject to the Council's normal conditions of let which included the closing down of the carnival operations each evening by 9.30 pm.

 

II OLYMPIA - ESSENTIAL REPAIRS TO DIVING BOARD

 

The Director of Leisure and Parks reported that essential repairs were required to the spring dive board at Olympia, together with the replacement of non-slip matting at the 3 and 5 metre platforms.

 

The Committee agreed to accept an offer of 7,295 by the specialist suppliers, Dive Gym Equipment Limited, Wheathamstead, Herts, to carry out the necessary works.

 

III BAXTER PARK RESTORATION PLAN

 

On a reference to Article IX of the minute of meeting of this Committee of 15th October, 2001 the Director of Leisure and Parks submitted Report No. 51-2002 informing the Committee on the progress of the Baxter Park Restoration Plan and requesting agreement for Technical Services work to be undertaken.

 

The Committee noted the progress with regard to the Baxter Park Restoration Plan and agreed to the undertaking of Technical Services by the Architectural Services Division of Dundee City Council to a value of 41,000.

 

IV BROWN TOURIST SIGNS FOR CAMPERDOWN COUNTRY PARK

 

The Director of Leisure and Parks submitted Report No. 52-2002 requesting approval for the appointment of Dee-Organ Limited to undertake the manufacture and erection of Brown Signs to Camperdown Country Park.

 

The Committee approved the offer by Dee-Organ Limited to carry out the works for the sum of 11,155 plus 1,115 contingencies making a total cost of 12,270.

 

V HEADSTONES ADDITIONAL WORKS

 

On a reference to Article VII of the minute of meeting of this Committee of 21st May, 2001 the Committee approved a further 5,000 of expenditure on the repair of dangerous headstones in the Eastern Cemetery on the basis that the additional works were implemented through the current contract arrangements with RBS Muir, Dundee.

 

VI TENDERS RECEIVED

 

The City Architectural Services Officer submitted Report No. 33-2002 giving details of offers received for the undernoted contracts:-

 

(a) Riverside Pavilion - Roof Repairs

 

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated offer with Dundee Contract Services amounting to 9,812.05 to carry out the above works to which required to be added an allowance of 1,654 for professional services making a total expenditure of 11,466.05.

 

(b) Dawson Park Bothy - Roof Repairs

 

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated offer with Dundee Contract Services amounting to 4,751.45 to which required to be added an allowance of 800 for professional fees making a total expenditure of 5,551.45.

 

(c) Broughty Ferry Esplanade Shelter - Repairs

 

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated offer with Dundee Contract Services amounting to 14,620 to which required to be added an allowance of 2,765 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 17,385.
